About the Work

TO THE EXTREME OF GREEN / garden of even is a floor-based work composed of linen, paper, glue, ink, and embroidery thread. The work takes an oval form containing a circular coordinate system with stretched and misaligned contours. The surface is segmented into fields that hold collaged geometric paper elements, while connecting lines are marked by repeated red French knots.

The piece operates through substitution and restraint. Green is withheld entirely; red is maintained as the sole chromatic register. Colour functions as material condition rather than signal, accumulating through repetition and contrast rather than reference.

Cartographic structure is present without destination. The coordinate system does not orient or guide but sustains a closed field in which movement is implied and suspended. Ground-level placement enforces proximity and bodily negotiation rather than overview.

The work maintains a state of tension between order and deviation, surface and interruption. Meaning remains embedded in absence, repetition, and the refusal of equilibrium rather than in allegory or instruction.
